Be the sensuous man with the right blends

I get to see a lot of raised eyebrows when I tell people around that even men can use essential oils to enhance their lives and well-being. I want to dispel this notion that aromatherapy is restricted only to women when both genders can take advantage of the therapeutic and holistic benefits of essential oils, for the oils do not discriminate on sex.

How can men be left from this wonderful science for it was Rene-Maurice Gattefosse, the French chemist who coined the term ‘Aromatherapy’. I know a lot of male friends of mine who use essential oils in their daily lives and are used to it. If blended right, you can find a scent for anyone, men included!

Although Aromatherapy does affect men and women differently due to the difference in sensory stimulation of their brains by scents, its beneficial effects can be enjoyed by men too.

Let me tell you an interesting anecdote, Josephine de Beauharnais introduced her husband The French Emperor Napoleon Bonparte to perfumes made of essential oils. His favourite scent was eau de cologne, a citrus blend of oils made from lavender, rosemary and thyme. He used 162 bottles of his favourite cologne in one month and later used eight quarts of cologne for rubdown every month.

For the modern man besieged by stress, the metamorphosis from a corporate man to a sensuous man is not an easy journey. Stress as we all know has its side effects and it is never easy for the man to be ‘in the mood’ always. This is where you can try Aromatherapy.

I recommend men to use

  • Patchouli,
  • Basil,
  • Sandalwood,
  • Cedarwood,
  • Orange,
  • Vanilla,
  • Clary sage,
  • Rosemary,
  • Bergamot,
  • Lavender,
  • Geranium

Cedarwood helps reduce daily stress leaving you feel rejuvenated and has a strong outdoor aroma too. Whereas lavender has a floral aroma and is liked by many men due to its calming effects, rosemary has a strong woody smell appreciated by most men. Choose any oil that appeals you.

The sensuous man:

Bring out the sensuous man in you to charm your woman with sandalwood or patchouli. Mix 2 drops of either of these essential oils in a tablespoon of carrier oil like sunflower or wheat germ and keep it handy. Just before an evening out rub this oil on your lower abdomen. Pat dry the oiliness with a tissue and you are ready to conquer the evening. Also remember to carry your wit and charm with you as you woo your lady love.

Muscle aches:

You can also help get rid of all muscle aches with this concoction in your bath water or as massage- 1 drop rosemary, 1 drop lavender, 1 drop eucalyptus, blend them in 1 tablespoon of carrier oil and relax. Ask your partner to give you a lower back massage with this recipe.

Shaving oils:

You can also make your own shaving oil to help condition your skin while you shave. Customise your own unique scent as it also keeps harmful chemicals lurking in shaving foams at bay. You can use patchouli, chamomile, bergamot or lavender, add two drops of any of these oils to about two tablespoons of any good carrier oil such as coconut, almond, jojoba or olive oil and apply before shaving to let your razor glide more smoothly over your skin.

Go ahead and make your own cologne or fragrance you can relate to. Be the sensuous masculine man like no other with right blends!
